Frequently Asked Questions

I have an emergency! Can you help?

If you are having a home emergency and need immediate repair to stop further damage, we recommend calling one of the 24/7 home restoration services in the area to stop the root cause of your issue and take care of mold/mildew clean-up, fire damage, on-going animal infiltration, or active water leaks. However, if you need someone to get your home back to it’s original shine after an unfortunate event has been cleaned up, we would be happy to work with you to make your home like new again.

If you suspect a gas leak, contact your local utility provider immediately.

How much will my project cost? And can I get an estimate?

It is often very difficult to say, for smaller projects we will give you a best guess of how long it might take and our hourly rate. We charge for time and materials, so you’re only charged for the time we’re working for you and any materials we may need to complete your project. We don’t usually do estimates for smaller handyman jobs, but for larger remodeling projects or projects that require ordering special materials, we will set up an appointment with you to come and look at what you would like to have done and we will create an initial budget estimate for you, a best guess as to what we think your project will end up costing. We want you to know before starting any work exactly what we think it will really take for you to complete your project, and we would rather you know fully what your project will cost before starting so there are no surprises at the end.

Sometimes, in the process of completing a job, especially in older homes, we find additional items that must be repaired to safely meet the Wisconsin Dwelling Code and we need to fix those items for your safety. In those cases, we will always discuss with you any additional work that may need to be completed so you have a full understanding of what needs to be done before we proceed.

Why is the estimate so high!?

Our company ethos throughout the years has always been to give you all the information you need to make an informed decision about your home project from the start. We want you to know what to expect at the end of the project so you can set realistic expectations for your initial budget. We have 37 years of home repair, remodeling, and new construction experience that go into estimating what your budget should be for what you want done and we want to make sure you know what your project will cost before starting instead of finding out at the end. Nearly all of our work is time & material based, so you’re only charged for the time we’re actually working on your project and any materials needed for your project, so in the end, our estimate is a rough initial budget, not a final price. If you are gathering multiple estimates, we understand that we will be on the higher end of the price range and even if you don’t use our services, consider using our estimate as a budget for your project.

How long will my project take?

Many simple fixes can be completed in less than a day, but when materials that are not commonly in-stock are needed or new doors or windows are to be installed, we work with local building material suppliers to order your exact product to ensure that in the end, you get exactly what you want. It typically takes 4-6 weeks for custom orders to arrive and we prefer to schedule your appointment with our handymen once we get confirmation from the supplier of when your materials will be here. Once materials arrive, we take the time needed to properly and safely complete your work in accordance with all dwelling codes and standard practices to ensure your home repair is completed safely and will be reliable for years to come.

I have an ice dam that’s causing a leak, what can I do?

Unfortunately, until the weather warms enough to fully thaw the ice dam, there isn’t much that can be done. Ice dams are caused by improper roof insulation and heat escaping and melting snow that’s accumulated on your roof then running down and refreezing over cold soffits. This then creates a dam at the edge of the roof that creates a pool of water that infiltrates normal home water-proofing and causes a leak. We can look at your ice-damming problem and offer temporary fixes, but the typical solution is to wait until warmer weather to repair the water-damage and add insulation to prevent further heat loss.
